I bought them myself at Adler-Schnee in Detroit, a store that prided itself on having the best of cutting edge modern design.
A set of six tall, narrow black water glasses, cut on an angle. Not smoky glass. Pitch black opaque glass cut diagonally.
Just took another look at them. Useless, but damn, they do look cool!

Because that makes a water glass hell to drink from, that’s why! “Cutting edge” indeed! The edge is so unpleasantly sharp I usually just used a straw. Ice cubes fell out of them. In short, they are perfectly useless for the purpose they were intended for.
They’ve been sitting in my kitchen cabinet for years. Along with the silver Dansk candlesticks that only hold very thin tapers which no one else seems to sell.
They look extremely cool .No one has ever seen anything like them. Neither had I,and I HAD to have them. I never thought to ask myself just WHY no one previously had the cool idea to cut a humdrum object like a water glass on a diagonal angle.
What is the thing that the olden generation enjoys more than the modern generation?
